Yuzvendra Chahal Divorce: Mental Health, Criticism & Healing

In a heartfelt conversation, Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal has broken his silence on a deeply personal chapter of his life—his divorce with Dhanashree Verma. The leg-spinner opened up about his emotional breakdown, anxiety, and even suicidal thoughts during the final stages of the marriage. Speaking on the Raj Shamani Podcast, Chahal revealed the toll the experience took on his mental health.
🧠 Chahal Battles Anxiety Amid Divorce Turmoil
Chahal admitted to facing anxiety attacks during the Vijay Hazare Trophy, prompting him to take a break from domestic cricket. He shared vivid details about his mental state: shivering, sweating despite air conditioning, and being overwhelmed by negativity on social media.
“I was depressed. I had suicidal thoughts. I needed time away from cricket,” Chahal confessed.
💔 The Real Reason Behind the Yuzvendra Chahal Divorce
Explaining the core issues in his relationship, Chahal cited compatibility differences and demanding careers as the main reasons. “She had her goals, I had mine. We were both ambitious, and sometimes, that leads to distance,” he said.
Chahal Reflects on His Own Red Flags
Asked about his flaws, Chahal admitted he had trouble expressing emotions—both happiness and sadness. He said he’s now actively working on becoming more communicative and emotionally aware.
“I rarely get angry. But when I do, I don’t fight disrespectfully. I never used abusive language or got physical,” he clarified.
🧢 Why Was Chahal Smiling After the Divorce?
Social media questioned Chahal’s happiness after the divorce was finalized. But he explained that it was the result of relief and emotional survival.
“I had every right to smile. I went through the worst phase of my life. That smile was strength, not mockery.”
🎵 Addressing Allegations from Dhanashree’s Song
Soon after the split, Dhanashree released a music video centered around themes like betrayal and domestic abuse. Rumors swirled on social media, accusing Chahal of cheating.
He firmly denied all such allegations.
“I have never cheated on anyone. I’m not that person. I’m loyal to the core. People blamed me without knowing the truth,” said the cricketer.
